3 post-spring breakout candidates for Virginia Tech football on offense
By Scott Roche
Benji Gosnell: TE
Following the Hokies bowl win over the Green Wave, the news just kept getting better and better for Pry and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen when tight end Nick Gallo announced he was returning after suffering a season-ending injury in practice right before the season started. It was a big loss for Virginia Tech and Gallo has been a key piece and a safety option for the quarterbacks. It opened the door for other tight ends and Dae’Quan Wright got a lot of the snaps.
Wright, however, entered the transfer portal and ended up committing to Mississippi after the season, which opened the door for Benji Gosnell and Harrison Saint Germain to play against Tulane. Both players took advantage of the opportunity and each caught a touchdown pass from Drones. Last season Gosnell had 12 catches for 137 yards and despite Gallo returning this season, he has a chance to make an impact in both the passing and running games as a blocker. The tight-end position is an area to watch over the summer.
