2024 Week 3 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
By Scott Roche
Another week has passed in college football and this week, there were not really as many eye-opening results as there was last week when Northern Illinois stunned Notre Dame in South Bend. Georgia was tested on the road at Kentucky, but as Kirby Smart's team generally does, they passed the test on the road against an SEC foe.
For the most part, all the teams in action that are considered contenders for the new 12-team College Football Playoff field took care of business and a lot did it impressively. Ohio State was idle, but Miami, Texas, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Tennessee took care of business with decisive wins.
Alabama rolled over Wisconsin on the road, Ole Miss routed Wake Forest on the road, Miami and Texas won impressively at home while Tennessee scored early and often in beating Kent State at home. With that said, here are the latest CFP projection rankings after this weekend's action.
2024 Week 3 12-team CFP predictions
Rank | Team | Why there here | Last Week |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Georgia | SEC Champ | 1 |
2. | Ohio State | Big Ten Champ | 2 |
3. | Miami | ACC Champ | 3 |
4. | Utah | Big 12 Champ | 4 |
5. | Texas | At-Large | 5 |
6. | Ole Miss | At-Large | 6 |
7. | Oregon | At-Large | 7 |
8. | Alabama | At-Large | 8 |
9. | USC | At-Large | 9 |
10. | Tennessee | At-Large | 11 |
11. | Penn State | At-Large | 10 |
12. | Boise State | MWC Champion | 12 |
As you can see, there was very little change from last week's ranking. Right now, the ACC is a one-bid league and unless something crazy happens, it's likely going to end up that way. Right now, Miami is the class of the conference and is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Louisville feels like they'll have a say, but we'll soon find out once conference play begins for all teams.
Boise State remains the team at No. 12 and their three-point loss at Oregon leaves them in the field, while Notre Dame rolled over Purdue as the Irish look to begin their march back into the rankings while they hope chaos happens elsewhere, which is what they need. I'm sure this upcoming weekend will offer some interesting results as college football always seems to do.
