When it comes to Media Days in college football in July, expect the unexpected. It's kind of like a game of Big Brother. Virginia Tech coach James Franklin said some things that opened some eyes on Thursday when it was the Hokies' turn to step up to the mic. He claimed that they have won the offseason, which is something that went crazy on social media.
On Friday morning, a couple of hours before the third and final day of ACC Media Days in Charlotte, Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi joined The Locker Room on 680 The Fan and made a bold comment that is going to send fans in the Big Ten crazy.
Pitt coach pat Narduzzi makes bold statement about the ACC being better than the Big Ten
Narduzzi is beginning his 12th season in charge of the Pittsburgh Panthers, who will visit Virginia Tech in early October for a Friday night game this fall, he took a shot at the Big Ten. Pitt's head coach, who worked at Michigan State as a defensive coordinator before accepting the Panthers job, took what seemed to be a shot at the former conference he coached in.
"I have said this for many years, regardless of what 'names guys' you have in the ACC as coaches, I'm going on season number 12, this conference is as good as any conference in the country,'' said Narduzzi. "....Coming from Michigan State, spent eight seasons there as the defensive coordinator, coming to Pitt in 2015, I said it then, and I said it now, after about two years in the league, I said this conference is better. It's better than the Big Ten; it has more skill.''
That's a statement. For the record, the Big Ten has won the last three National Championships: Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana. Miami played the Hoosiers in last year's title game and fell short. However, Narduzzi opened up a can of worms that really didn't need to be opened. He went on to comment on the success that the ACC has in bowl games against the SEC and Big Ten; however, unless it's in the College Football Playoff, you need to take those results for what they are, with bowl opt-outs that happen for the Transfer Portal and the NFL Draft.
There are going to be very few people who think that the ACC is better than the Big Ten, from top to bottom. The College Football Playoff success says otherwise. There are some battles to pick and choose, but that wasn't a great one for Narduzzi.
