Going into the 2025 season, there are more questions than answers surrounding the Virginia Tech football team. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, the Hokies are looking for a bounce-back season with a new-looking roster and some changes on the coaching staff.
Head coach Brent Pry returns with two new coordinators, a new offensive line coach, and a new strength and conditioning coordinator. Not a lot of people are sold on the Hokies for the 2025 season; however, with just under four weeks until the season kicks off against South Carolina in Atlanta, don't be surprised if Virginia Tech is a dangerous team for the 2025 campaign.
One reason Virginia Tech can be a dangerous football team in 2025
Virginia Tech opened up camp last week, and the early returns from head coach Brent Pry were positive, even the news surrounding Kyron Drones after offseason surgeries. Pry also mentioned that his team feels like they have something to prove.
"You know, that may have something to do with it, but I think more than anything, these guys got a little chip on their shoulder,'' Pry said. "They're excited about how close they are. They're excited about the summer they've had. And they feel like they have something to prove."
The last part of Pry's opening statement is certainly something that catches your eye about the Hokies feeling like they have something to prove. Those teams going into a season without high expectations and want to prove doubters wrong are sometimes the most dangerous teams in a season.
Are the Hokies going to crash the College Football Playoff and be a major contender? Unlikely, but anything is possible. They do have some players who are looking for a bounce-back season. If Pry and his staff can get those types of seasons out of players like Kyron Drones and some transfers, proving they can step in and contribute, then things get interesting for the 2025 season.
It wouldn't be surprising if Virginia Tech exceeds its over/under win total, which is 6.5 at FanDuel, and if they do, other teams will find out how big the chip on their shoulder really is.
