For years, the one-stop go-to for NFL fans has been the RedZone Channel from 1-8 p.m. EST. It's a pro football fan's dream, watching wall-to-wall NFL action with whip-around coverage. Could we be getting a college version of the RedZone? We can only hope.

Speaking with ESPN, Goodell mentioned now that the network has acquired the rights to the RedZone and the NFL Network, a RedZone in other sports, including football, might very well be in the cards sooner rather than later.

“It’ll continue to be produced right here in this building (NFL Network studios in Los Angeles),” Goodell said. “It will be the NFL RedZone. I don’t think fans will see any difference to that.

“Obviously, in the context of that, though, ESPN purchased the RedZone name, and they will be able to utilize that for other sports, college football, and other things, and I think that could be an exciting thing for our fans also to see a RedZone, maybe in college football or other sports. That’s something that they now own and can do. But as far as Red Zone, NFL Red Zone, there won’t be any changes for our plans.”

A college football RedZone would be a home run with fans

Just how that would work remains to be seen, but the likelihood of a college RedZone expanding over several games during any given Saturday would have to be broken down. Could we see an ACC channel for RedZone where you get all the ACC action on that given Saturday? The same for the SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten? Well, in order to do that, you would have to think that ESPN would need to get the networks that carry some of those conferences, CBS and Fox, to sign off on it.

The NFL and Roger Goodell can do anything they want, and if they want to ge their hands on a college football RedZone, then so be it. I know most college football fans would be in favor of it.
