When it was announced that Virginia Tech men's basketball freshman Neoklis Avdalas was going to enter the Transfer Portal, it came as little surprise last month. When he committed and withdrew from the NBA Draft process last spring, it was thought that he was going to play his one season in Blacksburg before heading to the NBA Draft this upcoming June.
Not so fast.
After a blistering start to his Virginia Tech career, he struggled once ACC play began and ended up seeing his draft stock tumble. Not only did his draft stock tumble, but so did his trust in head coach Mike Young. So much so that in the first round of a must-win ACC Tournament game last month in Charlotte against Wake Forest, he spent the last seven-plus minutes on the bench, plus the entire overtime. It wasn't surprising that he ended up in the portal, and he is drawing a lot of interest.

When Avdalas hit the portal, you knew he would be sought-after. That is the case. According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, he is hearing from several schools, including national champion Michigan. He is also drawing interest from Florida State and North Carolina, as well as a handful of SEC schools.
However, according to Rothstein, despite all the interest in Avdalas, it appears that he'll be making his decision based on Zoom calls or any other way of communication, as Rothstein reported that Avdalas will not be taking any visits. That is certainly a decision in this day and age in the portal. No visits.
It'll be interesting to see where he ends up, and in peak Virginia Tech fashion, it'll likely be in the ACC, and he'll have career games against the Hokies in 2026-27. That's just how things tend to go. Still, not visiting the portal with major programs in the mix is some kind of decision.
