Change is coming for the Virginia Tech men's basketball team for the 2026-27 season. That shouldn't be a surprise after the Hokies began the 2025-26 season with so much hype, but faltered to a 19-13 record and missed out on the NCAA Tournament. After an 11-2 start to the non-conference slate, Virginia Tech went 8-10 in ACC play and was bounced in the first round of the ACC Tournament by Wake Forest in overtime.

That loss ended any small glimmer of hope Mike Young's team had for an at-large bid to the 68-team NCAA Tournament field. The Hokies were in line for an NIT bid and possibly a high seed, but a couple of days after they were eliminated from the conference tournament, they posted on their X account that they were not going to accept a bid, which ended their season.

Given how things went down in ACC play and how the season ended, the writing was on the wall for an exodus out of Blacksburg through the Transfer Portal. That is the case with the fourth player reportedly entering when it opens next week.

Virginia Tech guard Jaden Schutt reportedly entering the Transfer Portal

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Schutt plans on entering the portal next week after two seasons with the Hokies. He'll be joining Neoklis Avdalas, Christian Gurdak, and Izaiah Pasha, hitting the portal. They likely won't be the last players either.

This past season, coming off the bench for Young, Schutt averaged 7.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 32 games for the Hokies, while averaging 24.7 minutes. He shot 38.4% from the field and 38.5% from behind the arc. He has two years of eligibility remaining after coming to Tech from Duke in the portal two years ago.

This feels like it's going to be another mass exodus out of Blacksburg as it was two years ago, and we all know how that turned out the following year.
