After Virginia Tech officially hired James Franklin as their next football coach, replacing former head coach Brent Pry, who is now their current defensive coordinator, you knew with the current state of the Transfer Portal that there were going to be some players following Franklin from State College to Blacksburg.
That ended up being the case with some key players coming to Virginia Tech from Penn State. Maybe the two biggest names are quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer and tight end Luke Reynolds. Both were highly recruited coming out of high school. Both are expected to be a huge part of the Hokies offense this fall.
Reynolds is someone who will likely play on Sundays in the future at the NFL level and continue the Franklin pipeline between college and the NFL for tight ends. Coming to a new school and program is never easy, but having the coaches who recruited you to your previous stop be at the next stop makes it a little easier. However, Reynolds has one thing that he's looking forward to going into the 2026 season.

What is Reynolds looking forward to this fall? It might surprise some fans; then again, it might not.
"Talking all winter and spring about the fans and how supportive they are and going back and watching some of the games, you can definitely see the passion in the stands,'' said Reynolds. "So going out there to a bunch of fans out there in Lane Stadium, hearing the Enter Sandman for the first time, it was definitely a little taste, if you will, of what's to come.
"Obviously, any game that we play is important to me, but I'm looking forward to, you know, one of the night games where the fireworks are going off and the stadium's jumping. I'm really looking forward to it."
Talk about one way to make yourself become a fan favorite rather quickly with your new team and fanbase. Let's be honest, there is a lot that Franklin and his staff can offer recruits as they visit, but one big selling point is the entrance and Enter Sandman. Reynolds didn't beat around the bush about experiencing this fall. His first shot, under the lights, will be on Sept. 5 against VMI.
