One of the more popular Saturday morning college football pregame shows has been ESPN’s “College GameDay”. FOX has tried to compete with them leading into the noon time kickoffs, but fans will admit there is only one pregame show that fans tune into before they sit down for a full day of games.
The weekly traveling show is a staple for the network and fans. When they show up on your campus, it’s not only three hours of madness for fans, but the week leading into it also provides an opportunity for fans to get hyped before what is usually a huge game that weekend.
If there has been one consistent theme with the show, it has been the panel. Host Rece Davis, along with Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, and Lee Corso. After retiring from Alabama, Nick Saban has made the seamless transition to the set along with loudmouth Pat McAfee. One long-time panel guest announced that he is retiring from the show.
Lee Corso is retiring from ESPN College GameDay
Corso announced that he will be retiring from the show after Week 1 of the 2025 season, which will be Labor Day Weekend. He has spent 40-plus years every Saturday in the fall traveling the country for the show's destination. During his run, the show won nine Emmy Awards.
"Lee Corso has developed a special connection to generations of fans through his entertaining style and iconic headgear picks," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said. "Lee is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of college football and our ESPN team will celebrate his legendary career during his final College GameDay appearance this August."
Corso is famous for his headgear pick for the biggest game of the weekend, and that is what the 90-year-old will be best remembered for on the broadcast, and not seeing them each week will certainly be different. A former coach before getting into broadcasting, he is also famous for his “Not so fast, my friend” comment during picks when he picked against other analysts. Here's hoping Lee Corso enjoys retirement!
