Latest Virginia Tech women's basketball bracketology has insane destination

This would really be madness in March.

Thursday night, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team dropped a disappointing 73-65 decision at home to Virginia in the first of two Commonwealth Clashes. The loss dropped the Hokies to 12-5 in Year 1 under Megan Duffy.

The last couple of seasons the path to the NCAA Tournament was clear for Virginia Tech, but this season, it's going to be a long grind to get into the field. We are just over eight weeks away from Selection Sunday and there is still plenty of time for the Hokies to pick up some more resume-building wins.

Every Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the regular season, Charlie Creme of ESPN will release his latest bracketology for the women. Virginia Tech was one of the last four teams in before Thursday night's loss to the Cavaliers. Friday, they were the last team into the field to Creme, and their destination in the latest pairing would be one that would be a stunner for several reasons.

Virginia Tech slated to play in the Lexington Regional in the latest women's bracketology

In his latest bracketology, Creme has the Hokies slotted into the Lexington Regional at Kentucky, which just so happens to be the home of former Virginia Tech coach Kenny Brooks, who bolted for Lexington after the Hokies' second-round NCAA Tournament loss last March, point guard Georgia Amoore, and center Clara Strack. For the record, Creme's bracketology has the Hokies needing to beat Washington and a rematch Baylor, who bounced Tech last season, just to get a chance to play Kentucky.

Regardless, Virginia Tech going to Lexington to play at Kentucky would be akaward in many ways. It would be strange to see Brooks on the opposite bench with Amoore and Strack donning the blue and white. In reality, it would take a number of factors to go one way for that to happen and the Hokies still have a lot of work to do to get safely in the field, but it's never too early to take a peek at the bracketology.
