After three games of the 2025 season, Virginia Tech decided to fire head football coach Brent Pry. At the time of the firing, the Transfer Portal was an option for players who had eligibility remaining beyond this year and for any players who were hoping to redshirt.
When quarterback Kyron Drones found out the Pry was fired, he said on the ACCN Football Podcast that he texted his former head coach. After that, there were team meetings that were held by the players and Drones, along with the other leaders on the team had a message for the rest of their teammates.

Drones said on the podcast that there were players-only meetings and made it clear as to what they wanted everyone to know.
"If you're all in, stay in this meeting room,'' said Drones. "If you're out, you can leave."
Some players took the leaders up on the latter and left, but for the ones who remained, they certainly have shown that they're all in. Since Philip Montgomery was named the interim coach, the Hokies have gone 3-2 with ACC wins over North Carolina State and California.
One noticeable thing is that Virginia Tech shows up every week prepared and ready to go for the 60 minutes. That was never evident than last Friday night when they trailed by 10 points at halftime to Cal before rallying in the second half and pulling out a win in double overtime.
This week, the Hokies get a hot Louisville team coming to Blacksburg. At 3-5, it is highly unlikely that a third straight bowl game is in the future for Virginia Tech, but if there is one thing that Hokies fans can take comfort in knowing is that, win or lose, they are going to show up and be all in.
