For the second consecutive season, the Virginia Tech football team will open the season against an SEC opponent. Last fall, the Hokies went to Nashville and dropped a surprising 34-27 overtime decision to Vanderbilt, which set the tone for a disappointing 2024 season.

This season, the Hokies will get two SEC foes right out of the gate with a neutral site game against South Carolina before Vanderbilt returns the trip to Blacksburg in Week 2. Virginia Tech and South Carolina, we knew was going to be played on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta, we just didn’t know the time. Now we do.

Virginia Tech kickoff time against South Carolina announced

The ACC/SEC matchups on Labor Day Weekend for Week 1 are going to be some good ones with three on Saturday and one on Sunday, which will feature Virginia Tech and South Carolina at 3 p.m. on ESPN, according to Brett McMurphy. On Saturday, Tennessee and Syracuse will get things started at noon in Atlanta, with Alabama at Florida State at 3:30 and LSU at Clemson at 7:30 with all three games being broadcast on ABC. Let’s not forget Notre Dame at Miami on Sunday night.

This is going to be a tough opener for Virginia Tech which has a lot to prove in 2025. A new-look roster with some key players coming back, along with a head coach in Brent Pry who is entering a vital season in Year 4 in charge of the Hokies. He has three new coaches as well, with offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery, defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes, and offensive line coach Matt Moore.

South Carolina returns a lot of talent and Shane Beamer will have his club ready to go as they figure to be a challenger in the SEC this season. This is a very early on test for Virginia Tech to begin the 2025 campaign.
