Recruiting can be difficult at times for everyone when it comes to high school players. However, that has not been a problem for James Franklin, whether it was at Penn State or as it turns out, Virginia Tech. The veteran head coach and his assistants have been on a recruiting heater lately in Blacksburg.
The heater has been so good that the Class of 2027 is soaring to new heights that haven't been seen in a long time for the Hokies. That can be attributed to Franklin and just his presence alone. Virginia Tech is getting commits from players they normally wouldn't be in on in previous seasons.
In some cases, it is hard to go into some states and recruit the top talent. For second-year offensive line coach Matt Moore, it wasn't a problem with Virginia Tech's latest commitment in the trenches.
Virginia Tech picks up commitment from West Virginia's top Class of 2027 recruit
Late on Saturday night, Virginia Tech picked up its 17th commitment in the Class of 2027 when three-star offensive lineman Luke Braham committed to the Hokies. He is the top recruit from the state of West Virginia and is from Morgantown, where West Virginia is located. Talk about going into West Virginia and plucking the top talent in the state right out from under a Power 4 conference program.

This might come as a surprise to some people, but relationships matter in recruiting. Braham has been on Moore's radar for some time, going back to Moore's day as the offensive line coach in Morgantown. He picked the Hokies over West Virginia, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and others.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Braham plays tackle in high school, but it is not known what Moore's plans are for him at Virginia Tech. He was the second commitment that Franklin got on Saturday, after four-star tight end Sam Faniel. He committed to Moore and Franklin on his official visit this weekend.
His addition moved Virginia Tech to the 10th-ranked class according to 247Sports in the country. It also gives Franklin four of the Top 10 recruiters in the ACC. You knew that when Franklin was hired in Blacksburg, this had the potential of happening at some point; little did many know that it was going to take just six months for him to put his mark on recruiting at Virginia Tech.
