If there is one thing that Virginia Tech football fans are learning, things get done under the watch of James Franklin when he's in charge. It happened at Vanderbilt and Penn State, and the results at both stops speak for themselves.

Things appear to be getting done so far in his first Virginia Tech camp. On Friday, the veteran coach spoke to the media and was asked about how things have been going. It's a quote that should sit well with Hokies fans who are looking to return to the Frank Beamer Glory Days of over a decade ago.

James Franklin drops blunt quote following Friday's practice

"I think we've made a ton of strides. We've had a physical camp," said Franklin. "I think our give-a-s**t level is really high, and I think we're getting a better idea on offense and defense and special teams who we're going to need to be with this team based on our identity to be successful. To me, that's a critical piece over these two weeks."

Every team's give-a-bleep level is always high this time of year. Well, at least it should be. However, when it comes to Virginia Tech this season, if there isn't a give-a-bleep-level that isn't high in this camp, there is a good chance you'll find yourself on the field in the opener against VMI or much at all this fall.

There are a lot of position battles that are still up in the air as we close in on 14 days before the James Franklin era officially begins in Blacksburg. The quarterback position is one battle that we believe will finish with Penn State transfer Ethan Grunkemeyer winning the battle over Bryce Baker, a North Carolina transfer.

The injury to Gabe Williams will require more depth at linebacker, and some freshmen on both sides of the ball are impressing in camp and could find themselves in the mix when depth charts are released.

Eventually, we will get official word on who will be the starters at some positions, and honestly, it isn't the worst thing in the world if Franklin keeps camp battles going for another week. The offensive line and defensive lines are two positions that need all the competition that can be had in a camp.

It isn't surprising that the give-a-bleep-level is high, and it should be high for the rest of camp and well into the season. If Virginia Tech wants to get where they want to go, then competition is the best thing for everyone going forward.
