Wednesday is Early Signing Day across college football, and there is still no coach in place at Penn State since they fired James Franklin back in October. As for Franklin, he was hired at Virginia Tech 16 days ago, and to say that he hit the ground running would be a massive understatement.
Since being hired in Blacksburg, he has gone back to his Penn State recruits and is plucking them and having them follow him to Virginia Tech. It started last week with four-star running back Messiah Mickens committing, and it went through Thanksgiving Day and now into this week. Early Wednesday morning, the commits started signing with the Hokies, and early in the afternoon, Franklin picked up another massive commit.
James Franklin flips four-star Penn State LB Terry Wiggins to Virginia Tech
The raiding of Penn State continued on signing day with four-star linebacker Terry Wiggins flipping his commitment from the Nittany Lions to Virginia Tech to follow Franklin. The Coatesville High School star in Pennsylvania, took a visit to Blacksburg and committed with Colorado also in the mix. He mentioned to 247Sports that he liked Colorado as well, but with a lot of uncertainty surrounding Deion Sanders and the future, it made sense to commit to Virginia Tech.
As a senior, he racked up 92 tackles, four sacks, 14 tackles for a loss, and 14 quarterback hurries. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Wiggins also played a key part on special teams with blocked punts.
Early on Wednesday morning, Franklin picked up another flip when James Madison linebacker John-Patrick Coates committed to the Hokies, as there is also uncertainty surrounding the future of the Dukes with Bob Chesney reportedly considering the UCLA job after this season.
This is turning into a loaded class for Franklin at Virginia Tech as he quickly loads up for the future in Blacksburg.
