On late Monday afternoon, news broke that James Franklin was going to become the next head football coach at Virginia Tech. It was one of the worst-kept secrets for the last couple of weeks, which was really gaining steam in the last seven days.
Franklin is scheduled to be formally introduced on Wednesday morning at Cassell Coliseum at 10 a.m. He will have a busy day ahead of him in Blacksburg that will end with the Hokies men's basketball game at night against Bryant.
Soon after it was official that Franklin was going to take over for his former defensive coordinator, Brent Pry, he went to work on recruiting, which has been one of his strong points as a head coach. He has recruited some of the nation's top talent to Penn State. He plans on playing the same at Virginia Tech, and on Tuesday afternoon, he is predicted to pull off a big flip.
James Franklin predicted to land former Penn State QB Troy Huhn
Franklin got a commitment from Class of 2026 quarterback Troy Huhn at Penn State, but the four-star signal caller from San Marcos, Calif., and Mission Hills High School, was a verbal commit to Franklin at Penn State. He has since reopened his recruiting; some recruiting analysts have predicted that he'll join Franklin in Blacksburg.
Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons, Adam Gorney, and Greg Biggins of Rivals all logged a prediction for Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder is a strong pocket passer with a big arm. He hasn't put a time frame on committing to a new school, and there are other schools in the mix for him, but he seems like someone who seems committed to Franklin, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him following him to the ACC. It is expected to be a big recruiting weekend on campus this week for Franklin in what is the final Hokeis' home game of 2025 against Miami.
