During camp, running back Terion Stewart suffered an injury and which cost him the first game for Virginia Tech last week against South Carolina. In fact, he didn't even make the trip to Atlanta for the showdown against the Gamecocks.

With a short week for Virginia Tech, just six days in between games before the home opener against Vanderbilt, Stewart's health has been a topic of conversation all week. Head coach Brent Pry seemed confident that things were progressing enough that he might have his running back vs. the Commodores, and it looks like he will.

Virginia Tech RB Terion Stewart to play against Vanderbilt

After missing the opener, it appears that the Bowling Green transfer is going to play at Lane Stadium on Saturday night. According to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline, he was dressed and going through warmups. Replacing Bhayshul Tuten is not going to be easy this year, but Stewart is one of the biggest Transfer Portal additions from the winter window, and he was expected to get a lot of the carries that Tuten got last year.

Against South Carolina, Central Missouri transfer Marcellous Hawkins carried the ball 15 times for 58 yards, but getting Stewart back is a game-changer for the Hokies and first-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

Last week against the Gamecocks, quarterback Kyron Drones carried the ball as well, and it's part of his game, but just how much does Virginia Tech want him to do that? His health is going to be vital this season after he had the 2024 season cut short with an injury.

Just how many carries Stewart gets remains to be seen, but this is a must-win for the Hokies and Pry, so it's all hands on deck against a second straight SEC opponent.
