During his recruiting process in high school, Kenny Minchey drew a lot of interest from some of the top programs in the country. A four-star, the Hendersonville, Tennessee native picked up several offers, including Virginia Tech.
That offer was extended in May of 2021, but he ended up committing to Pittsburgh. He flipped his commitment to Notre Dame and nearly beat out CJ Carr for the starting position this year as a junior. Notre Dame was snubbed from the College Football Playoff and declined to play in a bowl game this year, thus ending the Irish's season. Now that they are done for the season, players are beginning to make decisions on their future, and Minchey is reportedly entering the Transfer Portal.
Notre Dame QB Kenny Minchey reportedly entering the Transfer Portal & should be on James Franklin's radar
One team that is going to need a quarterback to come in right away and play next year it's James Franklin and Virginia Tech. Kyron Drones is out of eligibility, and there are several questions surrounding the other signal callers with eligibility remaining on the roster. Pop Watson has the most experience, but his future is unknown in Blacksburg.

Minchey was a 4⭐ QB in the Class Of 2023 for Notre Dame and battled CJ Carr for the Starting job in the spring and fall camp.

That's where Minchey comes in and is an intriguing option for Franklin. Of course, Franklin was at Penn State during Minchey's recruitment, but he is someone who can come in and run an offense at any power conference school after nearly beating out Carr to be Notre Dame's QB1.
Minchey saw limited action this year for the Irish, going 20-for-26 for 194 yards, while rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown. Given the number of quarterbacks that will enter the portal and the success some schools have had plucking their next QB out of the portal, there will be significant interest for Minchey.
Franklin has yet to name an offensive coordinator, but it is early in the process for the portal, which runs from Jan. 2-16, and by then, he should have someone in place.
