There are a lot of reasons to be excited for the 2025-26 Virginia Tech men's basketball season. One of them is that the Hokies will have a more exciting roster than they had this past season, where they won just 13 games.
Veteran coach Mike Young has upgraded his roster on paper and brought in some potential impactful transfers, along with some key incoming freshmen. Let's not overlook that Tobi Lawal entered the NBA Draft process and withdrew to return for his senior season in Blacksburg. A future Hokies' player who entered the same process and also withdrew to become a Hokie is Neoklis Avdalas. The incoming rookie from Greece has yet to get on campus to rpepare for next as he is playing for Greece in the FIBA Eurobacket U20. On Wednesday in the quarterfinals against Finland, Avdalas gave Hokies fans a glimpse of what the future might look like with a monster performance.

After cruising through pool play, Greece opened the knockout round with a win over Finland, 85-78, on Wednesday morning, and Avdalas put up a crazy storyline. The future Virginia Tech star had 23 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and two blocks. All in a day's work.

As we wrote earlier this month, one thing to get excited about with Avdalas is his ability to score in multiple ways, inside and outside. He had a sick crossover move earlier in the tournament, and don't overlook that he can handle the ball, and Young has even hinted at him playing some point guard this winter in Blacksburg.
There is a lot of excitement surrounding Avdalas and coming to Virginia Tech, and rightfully so, but he is doing nothing but getting fans excited about what could be and how quickly he can make an impact with an eye toward the 2026 NBA Draft.
