The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team celebrated Elizabeth Kitley on Sunday night with a five-point win over Louisville to pick up a big resume win for the NCAA Tournament. They went up two spots from the last team in Charlie Creme’s latest bracketology at ESPN. Now to keep moving up, they need to pick up a rather must-win on the road Thursday night.

Megan Duffy takes her team on the road after a three-game homestand and begins two games away from Blacksburg Thursday night at Pittsburgh. The Panthers are at the bottom of the ACC standings and a loss here would be a “bad loss” come March.

Pitt comes into the game off of back-to-back losses to North Carolina State and North Carolina, but before that, they picked up one of the most memorable wins of the season. Trailing SMU by 31 points at halftime, the Panthers held the Mustangs scoreless in the third quarter while scoring all 31 points. They outscored SMU, 54-10, to secure their only ACC victory.

Date: Thursday, Jan. 23

Virginia Tech Record: 13-5 (4-3 ACC)

After this game, things get tougher for the Hokies who travel to NC State Sunday before returning home to host Notre Dame. Four of Virginia Tech’s five starters are averaging double digits a game with Lani White just on the outside at 9.7. On Sunday, she scored 18 points against the Cardinals to carry them to the win. Defensively, the Hokies put together one of their best performances of the season, and they’ll need to carry that over to avoid an upset at the hands of the Panthers.
