It’s safe to say that the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team is facing one of their toughest two-game stretches of the 2024-25 season this week. After losing at North Carolina State on Sunday night, the Hokies return to Cassell Coliseum to host No. 3 Notre Dame.
That loss didn’t do much to hurt the Hokies' NCAA Tournament chances according to Charlie Creme of ESPN who had Virginia Tech as part of his latest bracketology in the same spot as before the game, as one of the four last teams in with Iowa, Washington, and Iowa State. A win over the Irish would certainly help their case and give them a major resume win over a team that is projected to be the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament according to Creme.

Date: Thursday, Jan. 30
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Venue: Cassell Coliseum
How to Watch: ACC Network Extra
Virginia Tech Record: 14-6 (5-4 ACC)
Notre Dame Record: 17-2 (8-0 ACC)
The Irish are led by Hannah Hildago who is in the conversation for Player of the Year honors. She averages 25.4 points game, 6.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 4.2 steals, and she’s shooting just under 50% on the season. She is coming off of three straight games of scoring 23 points against Boston College, SMU and North Carolina.
As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, the last thing they want to do is get into an up-and-down game with the Irish, it's not a style that they would win. They will also need another balanced scoring game from their five starters as well as getting some production from their bench. Easier said than done.
