After knocking off California and North Carolina State in their previous two games, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team was looking to give head coach Mike Young his 400th career win on Saturday afternoon at home against Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons used a strong second half to pull away for a nine-point win.
Virginia Tech will get a second chance to get their head coach his 400th win, this time on the road with an ACC clash at Georgia Tech. This will be the only matchup between the two programs in 2024-25 and the Yellow Jackets will be looking for some revenge after losing last season in Blacksburg. However, you don’t need to be reminded that this season’s Hokies’ roster looks vastly different than last winter's.
How to watch Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech men’s basketball
This game may not seem like a big game between two teams that will likely finish in the bottom half of the conference, but it still is in terms of the ACC Tournament. This season, the bottom three teams in the conference will miss the conference tournament and tiebreakers could come into play in early March to determine the teams that will have their season cut short.

Virginia Tech has struggled away from Cassell Coliseum this season with their lone conference win on the road coming at Cal. They had a halftime lead at Stanford but faltered in the final 20 minutes. To win on the road, the Hokies will have to take care of the ball, get some defensive stops, and establish Mylyjael Poteat on the inside as well as shoot the ball well from the outside. I know, easier said than done for Young’s team this season.
