We are closing in on the halfway point of the 2024-25 ACC basketball schedule. The Virginia Tech men are sitting at 3-6 and still searching for Mike Young’s 400th career win as head coach, losing the last three games to Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. The very winnable game during that stretch was against Georgia Tech who was banged up and missing some key players.
This week, the Hokies will play a pair of road games to try and get their veteran coach a milestone win and avoid falling to the bottom of the ACC standings. This season, the bottom three teams in the standings will not participate in the March conference tournament in Charlotte after the additions of Stanford, California, and SMU.
How to watch Virginia Tech vs. Florida State men’s basketball game
Virginia Tech will head South to Florida to take on Florida State, a team playing well above preseason expectations. The Seminoles are coming off a two-game road trip in California that saw them lose to Stanford and Cal.
Date: Wednesday, Jan. 29
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Venue: Tucker Center
How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, ESPN+, or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 8-12 (3-6 ACC)
Florida State Record: 13-7 (4-5 ACC)
This is a potential matchup nightmare for Virginia Tech with the Seminoles' length and athleticism. If the Hokies want to have a chance to win, they’ll need to rebound at both ends of the floor and avoid FSU getting to the basket for easy hoops.
Jamir Watkins scores 18.6 a game for Florida State and FSU is averaging 70.9 points a game, while the Hokies average 69.5 points a game. It will be interesting to see how FSU defends Tobi Lawal and if they force him to be a jump shooter rather than finishing on the inside.
