After winning three out of four ACC games, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team has dropped back-to-back decisions to Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. As we close in on the midway point of the 2024-25 conference schedule, there is a lot still at stake for the Hokies.

Veteran coach Mike Young is still sitting on 399 career wins and Virginia Tech is looking to try and stay in the top 15 of the ACC standings to avoid being left out of the conference tournament in March. The bottom three teams in the standings will not be part of the event in Charlotte. Talk about a brutal way to the end season for the three teams that don’t make it.

If Virginia Tech is going to pick up a needed win for the standings, they’ll have to do it against a very good conference foe at home.

How to watch Virginia Tech vs. Clemson men’s basketball game

Clemson is in a tight battle at the top of the conference standings with Duke, who enters the weekend undefeated, and a red-hot Louisville team. This season’s Tigers roster boasts a ton of talent, both returning and players through the portal.

Date: Saturday, Jan. 25
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Venue: Cassell Coliseum
How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, ESPN+, or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 8-11 (3-5 ACC)
Clemson Record: 16-4 (8-1 ACC)

If Young’s team is going to get their coach his 400th career win, they’ll have to play as clean of a game at both ends of the floor as they have this season. Clemson is not a team where you can turn the ball over carelessly and go through long scoring droughts and expect to be in it at the end. In the end, the Tigers' talent will be too much for Virginia Tech.

Prediction: Clemson 79, Virginia Tech 62
