After going two-thirds of the season without suffering a Quad 4 loss, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team suffered one on Thursday night at home against Syracuse, 93-87. Now, looking to rebound from that loss, Megan Duffy will take her team to Charlottesville on Sunday afternoon to look for a season split with Virginia.
Last month, the Cavaliers came into Cassell Coliseum and picked up a 73-65 win. Virginia is 12-12 overall this season, while Virginia Tech is 15-8. In ACC play, the Hokies are 6-6 and the Cavaliers are 4-8. Safe to say, this is a big one in terms of the standings, which are crowded.
How to watch Virginia Tech at Virginia women's basketball game
If the Hokies are going to win this game, they will need to get Rose Micheaux back as they missed their center against the Orange on Thursday. If they don't have her, then Duffy and her staff will have to find a way to deal with Virginia's bigs on the inside after Syracuse used an inside-outside game to outscore the Hokies.
Date: Sunday, Feb. 9
Time: 12:00 p.m.
Venue: John Paul Jones Arena
How to Watch: ACC Network, ESPN.com, ESPN+, or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 15-8 (6-6 ACC)
Virginia Record: 12-12 (4-8 ACC)
If the Hokies are going to have a chance with or without Micheaux, they will need to shoot the ball well from the outside and play better defense. Carleigh Wenzel scored 24 points against Syracuse, while Lani White, Matilda Ekh, and Carys Baker also had some key baskets. That has been the key to success for Virginia Tech this season, balanced scoring.
It's safe to say that Virginia Tech's defensive game plan will surround Latasha Lattimore as she averages 14.2, 8.6 rebounds, and a pair of blocks a game. She had 24 points and 15 rebounds in the first meeting.
