It has not been the start for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team under Megan Duffy in ACC play. The Hokies have dropped their first two games to two very good teams, Duke and Florida State to start at 0-2.

After a 31-point loss at home to the Seminoles on Thursday night, Duffy and her team are off to South Florida for an ACC matchup with Miami. The Hurricanes have played three conference games and are 1-2 after a 74-56 loss at Louisville Thursday night.

How to watch Virginia Tech at Miami women's basketball

This is the first and only matchup of the season between the Hokies and Hurricanes and the last time they met, Virginia Tech, minus Elizabeth Kitley, eliminated Miami from the ACC Tournament last March. However, let's not sugarcoat that both teams have new coaches and new teams.

  • Date: Sunday, Jan. 5
  • Time: 12:00 p.m.
  • Venue: Watsco Center
  • How to Watch: ACC Network Extra, ESPN.com
  • Virginia Tech Record: 9-4 (0-2 ACC)
  • Miami Record: 11-3 (1-2 ACC)

If Virginia Tech is going to pull out a win over Miami, they will have to contain Haley Cavinder who is averaging 18.4 points a game along with 7.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists. The Hurricanes are averaging 70 points a game and are 7-2 at home in 2024-25.

For the Hokies, it's going to be a simple recipe for success, take care of the basketball, something that doomed them against Florida State which led to a number of transition points. Averaging almost 77 points a game, they will have to establish Rose Micheaux on the inside as well as shoot the ball well from the outside, something that has been hot and cold all season long.

This is the first of two on the road for the Hokies with a difficult trip to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech on Thursday night. A win here would be big for Duffy and Virginia Tech.
