When Megan Duffy took the women’s basketball job at Virginia Tech, she knew that life in the ACC wouldn’t be easy. That has been the case through her first three games. The schedule has not done the Hokies any favors by beginning the season with a road game at Duke and a home game against Florida State. Both teams rolled to a win over Duffy’s team and on Sunday, Miami was on their way to dropping the Hokies to 0-3 in conference action before Virginia Tech found another gear.
Trailing the Hurricanes in South Florida, 59-47, the Hokies mounted a furious comeback in the final 7:32 to escape with a 68-64 victory. As is life in the ACC, things only get harder on Thursday night for Virginia Tech with a trip to 13th-ranked Georgia Tech and a matchup with the undefeated Yellow Jackets.
How to watch Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech women’s basketball
This will be the only matchup between the two teams and it’s another opportunity for the Hokies to pick up a road win that would be big come March.
Date: Thursday, Jan. 9
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Venue: McCamish Pavilion
How to Watch: ACC Network Extra, ESPN.com or FuboTV
Virginia Tech Record: 10-4 (1-2 ACC)
Georgia Tech Record3: 15-0 (3-0 ACC)
When the 2024-25 season began, raise your hand if you thought Georgia Tech would be the last team standing in the conference this year undefeated. Not many, I bet. However, the Yellow Jackets have been impressive nearly halfway through the season. For Virginia Tech, the recipe to handing Georgia Tech their first loss of the season is simple, limit the turnovers, play with urgency on defense as they did in the final 7:32 against Miami, and establish their offense both inside and the outside. This would be a giant win for the Hokies if they can pull it off in terms of building a case for the NCAA Tournament in March.
