After two losses to North Carolina State and Notre Dame, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will look to rebound at home with first-year ACC member SMU. Despite the two losses last week, the Hokies remain on the right side of the bubble in terms of the NCAA Tournament, according to Charlie Creme.
This is the middle of a three-game home stand for Megan Duffy and her team after losing to the Irish on Thursday night and hosting Syracuse next Thursday. The Mustangs come into the game after nearly pulling off an upset against Louisville three nights ago at home, losing to the Cardinals, 80-75.
How to watch SMU at Virginia Tech women's basketball game
Just like the men, the ACC women's basketball tournament next month will not include the bottom three teams in the standings when the regular season ends. Currently, SMU is in 16th place entering Blacksburg and despite their record, they won't make it easy on the Hokies.

Virginia Tech Record: 14-7 (5-5 ACC)
SMU Record: 10-12 (2-8 ACC)
Four of Virginia Tech's five starters, Carleigh Wenzel, Rose Micheaux, Matilda Ekh and Carys Baker are all averaging double figures a game, while Utah transfer Lani White is close herself at 9.5 a night. If there has been one takeaway from the Hokies' season, it's that with balance scoring each night is needed and they are getting it with a short bench.
SMU has one of the more notable losses this season and that occurred at Pittsburgh on Jan. 12. The Mustangs led 32-7 after the first quarter and 49-18 at halftime. Then the unthinkable happened. Pittsburgh outscored the visitors, 28-0, in the third quarter (that's not a misprint) and 26-10 in the fourth quarter to suffer a 72-59 loss.
