Already clinching a spot in the ACC Tournament next week, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will play their final home game of the 2024-25 season Tuesday night. It will be a tough game against a team desperate for a win to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
North Carolina will be in Blacksburg for the season's only meeting between the Hokies and Tar Heels. Virginia Tech comes in off another second-half rally on Saturday afternoon after they rallied from a double-digit deficit to win in overtime, 101-95, in a game that saw the Orange force the extra session after hitting a 3-point with 0.6 seconds left. Up three, Mike Young chose to foul he said, but the message wasn’t relayed to his team on the court.
How to watch North Carolina at Virginia Tech men’s basketball
The Hokies come into the game needing this game for seeding purposes for the ACC Tournament. They have two very difficult games remaining, with a trip to Clemson on Saturday night to close the regular season, but Virginia Tech is two wins away from finishing 10-10, which would be a major feat for this group.
Virginia Tech got Mylyjael Poteat back against Syracuse, but missed their leading scorer and rebounder in VCU transfer Tobi Lawal with an illness, but he was still on the bench in sweats. Rodney Brown ended up missing another game for the Hokies as well with an injury.
North Carolina is a team that needs a win and as many as they can get to avoid missing the NCAA Tournament. They close the regular season out on Saturday night hosting Duke, so they can’t afford slipping up against the Hokies. R.J. Davis is one of the best players in the ACC and as he goes, so does North Carolina.
Virginia Tech has played some of the top teams tough at home this year, taking Louisville down to the wire last week before losing by five points. A young team, this would be a confidence-building victory for them as they look to head into the ACC Tournament on a strong note.
