Virginia Tech’s nine grapplers – tied for most all-time in program history – competed for three days at the NCAA National Championships in Philadelphia, culminating in the finals held this past Saturday in the Wells Fargo Center.

Entering the tournament, the Hokies were fresh off their first ACC team championship since 2018 behind four ACC title winners. Tony Robie’s squad looked to improve on their 7th place finish at the national championships in Kansas City.

Notable Performances

Eddie Ventresca put on a show, earning himself All-America honors and a 5th place finish. The 125-pounder earned All-American honors for the second time.

Connor McGonagle made his way through the consolation brackets to earn a 6th place finish. McGonagle became an All-American for the first time in his career.

Caleb Henson remained perfect throughout his journey through the 149-pound bracket as he made his way to the finals for the second straight season: the first Hokie ever to do so. After battling with Nebraska’s Ridge Lovett, he came up just short of claiming his second national title, despite having a takedown wiped off the board by the officials. Henson earned All-American honors for the third time.

Virginia Tech finished the tournament’s team race in 11th place with 41 points.
