One area that the Hokies have had some key players enter the transfer portal is in the secondary with Mansoor Delane and Mose Phillips. Delane recently committed to LSU while Phillips is also heading to the SEC to Missouri. When it comes to the Duke's Mayo Bowl, that leaves Virginia Tech with some young players to go up against Minnesota.

Wednesday night, Virginia Tech's first transfer portal commit was Clemson transfer safety Sherrod Covil, Jr. The Chesapeake native has one year of eligibility remaining and should provide a veteran presence for some of the younger players. There is a good chance that he will line up with Quentin Reddish at the safety spot.

This past season for the Tigers he played in 11 games, started one, and had 12 tackles. In 32 games played for Clemson, he had 36 tackles. Those numbers are not going to jump off the screen at you, but this is a big pick-up for Virginia Tech with what they have lost so far in the portal.
