The current state of college football is one where you really need to pay attention to see where some of your favorite players end up. It has turned into a professional version of free agency. In this day and age, where you can rebuild on the fly and turn things around quicker than even a decade ago, a lot of people like it.
As far as Virginia Tech goes, NIL and the Transfer Portal are going to be big for new head coach James Franklin, who is rebuilding the Hokies' roster for the 2026 season. As always, with players coming in through the portal, players are going out. As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, the exodus started earlier than normal in 2025.
After a Week 3 loss to Old Dominion at home, the school decided to fire former head coach Brent Pry. That allowed players to save a year of eligibility and enter the portal shortly after the move was made. One of the players who decided to hit the portal and preserve a year of eligibility was defensive lineman Keyshawn Burgos. On Tuesday, he committed to a Big Ten school, marking the second time in as many years as former Hokies' player has landed at the same rebuilding program.
Virginia Tech transfer Keyshawn Burgos commits to Purdue
Burgos committed to Purdue on Tuesday after he hit the portal back in the fall after Virginia Tech fired Pry. During his time in Blacksburg, he registered 58 tackles, seven for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. The 6-foot-5 Virginia native will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Burgos is the second Virginia Tech player to commit to Purdue in the Transfer Portal in as many years. Last year, running back Malachi Thomas committed to the Boilermakers and rushed for 243 yards in 2025, while racking up 99 yards receiving.
