When it was the Washington Commanders' turn to pick in the fourth round on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, the pick was clear. It was just too good for them to pass up, former Virginia Tech wide receiver Jaylin Lane.
There are a lot of players who could be considered "drafts steals,'' however, when all is said and done, that very well may fit the bill with Lane. Washington was excited to have him still on the board and the former Hokies playmaker has not disappointed in minicamp, training camp and now the preseason.
Monday night, Washington hosted the Cincinnati Bengals in their second preseason game of the summer and once again, getting a chance to show what he can do, Lane didn't disappoint. In a game that saw quarterback Jayden Daniels play just a couple of series, Lane impressed Commanders' fans with a second quarter reception.

Lane made a catch in the second quarter where he broke one his rout and despite having his jersey tugged from behind by his defender, he was able to catch a pass low to the ground in what was an athletic catch.

According to Grant Paulson of the Grant & Danny Show on 106.7 The Fan, this is something that happens a lot in camp. Lane is someone who can, without a doubt, make a big impact for Washington this upcoming season, and he has yet to make a name for himself returning a punt, although he did pick up 11 yards on a return against Cincinnati. Lane finished with four receptions for 42 yards, with a 16-yard catch being his longest. He also had a kick return for 22 yards in the 31-17 loss.
