It has been another lost season for the New York Jets in terms of wins and losses. As frustrating as the wins and losses have been, so have been the injuries and quarterback play, aside from former Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor, who had more moments than Fields.

Back in March, New York signed former first-round pick Justin Fields to take over for Aaron Rodgers, who left for the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. However, injuries to those players have forced former Missouri quarterback Brady Cook to start without a backup. On Thursday, they signed former Hokies quarterback Hendon Hooker to the practice squad with both Fields and Taylor banged up. He'll likely be elevated for Sunday's game.

Fields was demoted from the starting role and is currently dealing with a knee injury, while Taylor suffered a groin injury soon after taking over as the starter.

In last week's 48-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cooke was 23-for-33 for 176 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. The Jets are at New Orleans this weekend to face the Saints.

Hooker spent three years at Virginia Tech before he transferred to Tennessee, where his career took off. While in Blacksburg, he threw for 2,894 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 24 career games.

Hooker was on the Carolina Panthers practice squad before being released last month. He was passed over by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this month in favor of veteran Philip Rivers. As for Hooker, the 6-foot-4 signal caller was in training camp with the Detroit Lions, but was released. There are not many chances in the NFL remaining for Hooker, and this might be his last chance to catch on with a team. Has ties with current Jets coach Aaron Glenn.
