Former Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor is in his second training camp with the New York Jets. Last season he backed up Aaron Rodgers, but the Jets moved on from him the former Green Bay Packers and brought in former first-round pick Justin Fields, who was with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Taylor underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, which head coach Aaron Glenn called a "minor scope", to fix what has been bothering him for more than a week. He will miss the rest of the preseason, but New York and Glenn are hopeful that he'll be ready for the Week 1 opener against Pittsburgh.

Coming into camp, Taylor, who is still going strong at 36 years old, was the second signal caller on the Jets' depth chart behind Fields. Now with him sidelined, former Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez will slide up there until Taylor can be cleared to return to action this season.

Tyrod Taylor suffers another injury setback in his career

Taylor has carved out a nice NFL career for himself despite battling several injuries during his time in the league. He had played for several teams and served as a backup, and let's just say, he's a veteran voice that teams find valuable with young quarterbacks. Fields is thrilled to have him to bounce ideas off of.

"This is Year 15 for him and, of course, he's seen a lot of things and has played in a lot of games," Fields said. "It's great having him in the room, for sure."

The problem New York is facing is that Taylor is the lone quarterback aside from Fields with any experience in the NFL, as Martinez was on the practice squad last year. You can see why the Jets tackled the issue that has been bothering Taylor so quickly, hoping he'll be ready for the season opener early next month.
