Entering his seventh season as a kicker in the NFL, former Virginia Tech kicker Joey Slye has made some big kicks in his career. Last season, kicking for the New England Patriots, he booted a team-record 63-yard field goal against the San Francisco 49ers.
In 2023, kicking for the Washington Commanders, Slye kicked a 61-yard field goal for his only other kick beyond 60-plus yards. There is no doubt that he has a big leg, which a number of teams have found out as he has kicked for the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Commanders, 49ers, and the Patriots.
Following last season, New England made a ton of changes, and Slye walked in free agency. It wasn't surprising, but he ended up finding a new home in the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans. On Saturday, the newest Titan opened some eyes in camp with a long boot in practice.

Slye lined up for a kick from 66 yards, and he calmly stepped up and booted it through the uprights with ease. I know, it's only practice and there is no pressure whatsoever for him, but still, how many times has a kicker booted a 66-yard field goal outside of the air in Denver, Colorado, and made it with ease?

Would Tennessee try a 66-yarder in a real game? Who knows, but Slye's boot would have been good from 70 yards, and it had room to spare when it cleared the crossbar. His kick for the Patriots last season in the Bay Area that set the franchise record would have been good from a few more yards back.
Expectations are not high for the Titans going into the 2025 season, but Slye can be a difference-maker with his leg, something he was for New England last season, costing them the No. 1 overall pick in this past April's NFL Draft.
