The Virginia Tech football program is still in the process of building a Class of 2026 recruiting class, and currently, Brent Pry has nine commitments. He had been on a mini heater in terms of commitments, but recently, the well has gone dry, and the commitments are going in the other direction, including two to Virginia.

One area where Pry has four commitments is along the offensive line for first-year offensive line coach Matt Moore, who came over from West Virginia. Those are promising commits and one five-star recruit from the Commonwealth released his Top 5 schools and left the Hokies off the list.

Virginia Tech football not a Top 5 for five-star recruit Darius Gray

Five-star interior offensive lineman Darius Gray, from Richmond, released his Top 5 schools, and missing was Virginia Tech. His final five are Ohio State, Tennessee, LSU, Clemson, and South Carolina. That is a prime list of schools that are powerhouse programs.

Gray took an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech last fall, then an official visit in April, but he took official visits to the final five schools in May and June before the dead period. You don't need to be reminded that former Hokies offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen left Blacksburg back in February to take the offensive line position at Ohio State for Ryan Day.

Virginia Tech has four offensive linemen committed in the Class of 2026 with four-star Thomas Wilder, a tackle from Green Run High School, three-star Tyrell Simpson from North Carolina, three-star Adrian Hamilton from Washington, D.C., and three-star Buddy Wegdam from Woodberry Forest. The Hokies are still looking to add some skilled position players on that side of the ball. Two four-star recruits in the Class of 2026, quarterback Peyton Falzone and wide receiver Carnell Warren, both de-committed from Virginia Tech to land elsewhere.
