Through the first four weeks, it hasn't gone as well as Texas QB Arch Manning or head coach Steve Sarkisian had hoped. It began with a very tough road game in the season opener at Ohio State, and he hasn't impressed as many hoped he would in the next three games. Some analysts and NFL Draft scouts think his draft stock is going in the wrong direction.
Despite all of that, a former Virginia Tech player and someone who knows QBs very well thinks that the expectations for Manning need to be cooled a little bit.
Former Virginia Tech cornerback DeAngelo Hall has a take on Arch Manning
Speaking with betway insight about several topics, DeAngelo Hall said everyone needs to pump the breaks on Manning and their expectations for him.
"I think expectations should be cooled a little bit. He obviously has the right name when you talk about the legacy of being a football player with the name ‘Manning’. I was drafted the same year Eli Manning was, and even he had that family legacy and expectation because of his father and brother playing.
"To me, Arch is a really, really good player though. He just hasn’t unpacked his full bag of accessories yet. He’s an awesome talent, but he is very early on in the process. When you see Arch be able to get out of the pocket and use some of that athleticism, you can see he’s definitely the most athletic Manning. "
Hall isn't the first to link Arch's last name to his expectations, and it is unfair to the youngster to hold his expectations high because of his last name and family tree. He is a very good talent, and when all is said and done, another year of college football might do him some good, but let's pump the brakes on expectations, right now. The Longhorns are on a bye this week and have a trip to Florida up next on Oct. 4.
