Like the men, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will begin ACC play in earnest this upcoming week. Unlike the men, the women had a very good non-conference slate despite losing their ACC opener earlier this month at Duke.

Picked to finish 12th in the ACC in the preseason poll, it wouldn't be surprising to see them finish a little higher when all is said and done in March. First-year coach Megan Duffy and her team will play their first ACC game at home on Thursday night against Florida State and whether or not an NCAA Tournament bid is in their future, it remains to be seen. As they begin ACC play in full, let's break down their win probability in each game according to ESPN's matchup predictor.

  • Jan. 2: vs. Florida State, Virginia Tech win probability, 43.5%
  • Jan. 5: at Miami, Virginia Tech win probability, 63.3%
  • Jan. 9: at Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech win probability, 23.7%
  • Jan. 12: vs. Wake Forest, Virginia Tech win probability, 94.4%
  • Jan. 16: vs. Virginia, Virginia Tech win probability, 87.0%
  • Jan. 19: vs. Louisville, Virginia Tech win probability, 49.0%
  • Jan. 23: at Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech win probability, 92.3%
  • Jan. 26: at North Carolina State, Virginia Tech win probability, 17.7%
  • Jan. 30: vs. Notre Dame, Virginia Tech win probability, 12.1%
  • Feb. 2: vs. SMU, Virginia Tech win probability, 93.2%
  • Feb. 6: vs. Syracuse, Virginia Tech win probability, 84.9%
  • Feb. 9: at Virginia, Virginia Tech win probability, 25.5%
  • Feb. 13: at North Carolina, Virginia Tech win probability, 22.9%
  • Feb. 20: vs. Stanford, Virginia Tech win probability, 59.9%
  • Feb. 23: vs. California, Virginia Tech win probability, 58.2%
  • Feb. 27: at Boston College, Virginia Tech win probability, 59.5%
  • March 2: at Clemson, Virginia Tech win probability, 71.0%

At 9-3 currently, the ESPN matchup predictor has the Hokies winning close to 10 games, which would certainly have them on the bubble when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. However, this has the potential to be a fun season following Virginia Tech with the way they have played so far in 2024-25.
