With every move that happens around college in the coaching carousel, it's going to affect Virginia Tech. They were the second school last month to fire their head coach Brent Pry after UCLA fired DeShaun Foster.
Since then, other power conference schools, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Penn State are just a few who have an interim coach. After Penn State fired James Franklin, that became the most desirable job of the current openings.
Virginia Tech has hired a committee to find the schools next coach with a search. There have been some names linked to the position, but truth be told, it's going to take time as an candidates that are currently head coaches are just at the halfway point in their seasons. They may also have to wait until Penn State or any other big program finds their next coach as this is sure to be an exiciting nex couple of months.
Indiana coach Curt Cignetti was the rumored name surrounding the Penn State job, and on Thursday, he was locked up by Indiana by agreeing to an extension of eight years with an average yearly salary of $11.6 million. That is just the beginning of what is going to be an expensive coaching carousel this cycle.
Virginia Tech will have to pay up for their next head coach
If Virginia Tech is going to hire the coach they desire, one thing you can take away from Cignetti's deal, it's going to cost money. Especially if they go after another Power 4 coach.
Money is talking right now in college sports and that is going to be the case with the next round of coaching hires. Whether that's a school locking up their current coach as Indiana did or a school having to pay to pry someone away from their current spot, it's going to be expensive. Buckle up, this is going to be a long ride.
