Eight days after being eliminated in the second round of the ACC Tournament by Georgia Tech, the waiting time frame for the Virginia Tech women's basketball team in regards to the NCAA Tournament has been painful.
At 18-12 after a 72-57 loss to the Yellow Jackets, the Hokies and first-year coach Megan Duffy need a lot of results to go their way in other conference tournaments for an at-large NCAA Tournament bid. According to Charlie Creme of ESPN, Virginia Tech has been on the bubble for the last month between the Last Four In and the First Four Out. They generally have been the last team or the first one out.
That's where they currently stand and the result in the second semifinal of the Ivy League Tournament on Friday night may have squashed their hopes of making the 68-team field.
Charlie Creme posts ominous social media post on Virginia Tech women's NCAA Tournament hopes
Harvard and Princeton are the last two teams in Creme's bracketology field, and they met in the Ivy semi-finals on Friday night. The best case scenario for Virginia Tech was either team blowing the other out, preferably Princeton doing it to Harvard, and that would open the door for the Hokies to sneak in.
It didn't go that way as Harvard rallied in the second half for a 70-67 victory to advance to the championship game on Saturday night against Columbia. Following the game, Creme posted on his X account that there is a real possibility that the Ivy League gets three teams, which would leave the Hokies on the outside looking in.
If the observable component does come into play heavily with the committee's deliberations this weekend I think it's fair to say Princeton does look like a tournament team. I am going to leave the Tigers in the field. I do think 3 Ivy teams in the field is a real possibility.

Here is what he wrote late Friday night on his bracketology page. Whichever you read, it doesn't paint an very good outlook for Virginia Tech. Who knows, maybe there is a blowout in the title game tonight by Columbia to open the door back up for the Hokies, but that seems like a desperate wish at this point with the selection show Sunday night.
