When Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young moved on from some staff members following last season, it left an opening on his coaching staff after Christian Webster was let go. Webster is joining the staff at Stetson, but Young needed to fill his spot on the bench.
Young was able to fill it with Chester Frazier, bringing him home to Blacksburg. This was a major addition as Frazier is a great recruiter, something that the Hokies needed to add. It didn't take long for the former West Virginia assistant to make an impact with Virginia Tech as transfer Amani Hansberry followed Frazier from Morgantown to Tech.
Frazier has been on the job for a couple of months in Blacksburg, and he has already made a significant impact just in terms of recruiting. Hansberry is going to be a big addition to the Hokies next season, and Frazier's best work was recently done, securing Young one of the top recruits for the men's basketball program.
Chester Frazier helps Virginia Tech strike gold with Neoklis Avdalas
Young met with the media on Tuesday and discussed a number of topics, and you can tell that he's already excited about the potential his team has. Things got even better over the weekend when it was reported that Neoklis Avdalas from Greece was withdrawing from the NBA Draft process. Why ws that big? As he entered the NBA Draft process, he gave a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech should he withdraw. On Monday, he officially signed with the Hokies.
Tuesday, Young said that Avdalas is "just a talented person," and after a year of college basketball, he could find himself as a first-round pick. However, Young said that the reason why Avdalas is coming to Virginia Tech is because of Frazier, who connected with his agent. Gold.
Young said back in March that he didn't want to go through a season like the 13-19 campaign he went through in 2024-25 and Frazier wasn't part of the staff, but since joining, he's making a major impact and building a roster that on paper is going to be fun and much more competitive.
