When the Virginia Tech football team meets California on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, there are some questions as to who will be under center for the Golden Bears. Truth be told, we likely won't find out until the 3:30 p.m. EST start time.

Cal star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele left in the first half of last Saturday's non-conference loss at UNLV with what has been revealed to be a concussion. Despite being cleared to return to the game in the second half, Golden Bears head coach Tosh Lupoi decided to keep his sophomore out for the remainder of the game. On Tuesday, Lupoi confirmed that Sagapolutele is showing some concussion symptoms, and his status against the Hokies remains to be a question mark.

Cal QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele remains questionable against Virginia Tech

Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry are going to have to prepare for a couple of quarterbacks on Saturday. In fact, Cal has 10 starters banged up currently, but you can bet some of them are going to play against Virginia Tech. However, when it comes to Sagapolutele, he's the biggest name that's injured. Lupoi gave an update on Tuesday on his signal caller.

“He was cleared to go back in at one point,'' Lupoi said. "That tells you it was a minor whatever-you-want-to-call-it.”

Concussions are not good, whether or not they are minor. However, since Sagapolutele was cleared to go back into the game was a good sign, but Lupoi keeping him out was likely the right decision and one that gets him on the field this week.

The first injury report is due out on Wednesday night, and it'll be interesting to see where he lands. At his weekly press conference with the media on Monday, Franklin was preparing for the unknown against Cal when it comes to who will and won't be available. He will likely prepare for Sagapolutele and adjust on the fly if he doesn't go. The first hint should come on Wednesday night.
