The Virginia Tech football team suffered another stunning defeat in 2024 on Saturday afternoon, this time at Syracuse. Week 1 at Vanderbilt was the first, Week 4 at home against Rutgers was the second, and then Week 5 at Miami was their third.

A 38-31 overtime loss against the Orange came after the Hokies held a 21-3 lead midway through the third quarter before having a defensive meltdown of epic proportions. Now at 5-4 and buried with injuries to key players, Virginia Tech must pick up the pieces from a stunning loss and host Clemson next weekend.

The Tigers will come to Blacksburg off a disappointing 33-21 loss to Louisville at home. They were outplayed by the Cardinals and the loss is a major hit to the Tigers ACC Championship Game hopes. Following the game, quarterback Cade Klubnik vowed to be better for his teammates.

Clemson QB Cade Klubnik promises to be better at Virginia Tech

If there is one thing we've learned about Clemson, it's that they bounce back after defeats under Dabo Swinney. Their next opponent? The Hokies, of course. Klubnik following the loss Saturday night vowed to be better next week and will work hard to do it.

“I’m gonna show up Monday and kick Monday’s ass. I’m gonna show up Tuesday and kick Tuesday’s ass. I’m gonna show up Wednesday and kick Wednesday’s ass. I’m gonna carry that forward for the best weekend Saturday.”

That's not a good sign for Virginia Tech, head coach Brent Pry, and defensive coordinator Chris Marve. Against Louisville, Klubnik threw the ball 56 times and completed 33 of those throws for 228 yards. Expect him to throw it more at Lane Stadium against the Hokies.

Clemson was going to be tough and now add in a loss at home to Louisville and a now-motivated Klubnik, if you thought Kyle McCord was going to test the Virginia Tech defense, just wait to see what Klubnik could potentially have in store for them.
