The makeover of the Virginia Tech football roster is continuing after the Transfer Portal closed on Friday night. James Franklin and his staff are putting together a roster full of transfers from power conference schools and other FCS programs.
One area that needs some additions is along the offensive line. Yes, the line played was better this year under first-year coach Matt Moore, and Franklin retained him from Brent Pry's staff. Moore came over from West Virginia last year and brought some of his former linemen with him to Blacksburg. He also had to insert some young players into the lineup at times, testing the depth for a group that was banged up throughout the whole season.
Attacking the offensive line in the Transfer Portal is not surprising this cycle for the Hokies, and on Saturday night, it got better, and it got better with a familiar face to Moore from his days in Morgantown.
Ohio State OL transfer Justin Terry committed to Virginia Tech and former coach Matt Moore
Justin Terry, who started his college career with West Virginia under Moore, hit the portal after Moore bolted for Virginia Tech last December, and when head coach Neal Brown left. He landed at Ohio State and was coached by former Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. On Saturday night, Terry committed to Virginia Tech.
After not playing his freshman year at West Virginia, Terry played 57 snaps for Ohio State in 2025 before entering the portal. He'll have three years of eligibility remaining. A three-star out of high school, he had double-digit offers before picking the Mountaineers.
The makeover of the roster continues for Franklin and the Hokies, and Moore is adding some good players to work with in front of transfer quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer from Penn State and Bryce Baker from North Carolina. The offensive line makeover is well underway.
