For the most part under Brent Pry, Virginia Tech has been in the mix for recruits in Virginia. That doesn't always mean that they will get a commitment, but so far in the Class of 2026 cycle, Pry has been good at defending the turf in the Commonwealth.
On Thursday night, the Hokies got a commitment from four-star in-state offensive tackle Thomas Wilder, which was a must-win against North Carolina, Penn State, and Maryland. On Friday, a four-star wide receiver from Chesapeake announced his commitment, and he bypassed Virginia Tech to head to the Big Ten.
Virginia Tech football loses Travis Johnson recruitment to Big Ten powerhouse
Travis Johnson, a four-star wide receiver, committed to Michigan over the Hokies, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Indiana, and Penn State. The 6-foot-3 receiver who plays at Oscar Smith, is a huge pickup for the Wolverines and head coach Sherrone Moore.

It's no surprise that Johnson picked Michigan as Crystal Ball predictions were leaning in that direction. This is a loss that still hurts, despite not being much of a surprise. Virginia Tech got a commitment from four-star wide receiver Carnell Warren over the winter, then he de-committed last month, becoming the second player in the class to de-commit after quarterback Peyton Falzone did to commit to Penn State, then last week flipped to Auburn.
It's back to the drawing board for Pry and the Hokies at the wide receiver position and the skilled position overall as they don't have any commits in those positions yet. They had added along the offensive line, but they have lost their two big offensive commitments in Falzone and Warren.
Pry and the Hokies will look to pick up a commitment on Saturday when interior offensive lineman Adrian Hamilton will make his decision and the Crystal Ball predictions from 247Sports bode well for Virginia Tech.
