On Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech men's basketball team began ACC play at Cassell Coliseum against Pittsburgh on a five-game losing streak. Just anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong in their last five games in losses to Penn State, Jacksonville, Michigan, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Their last outing saw former Hokie MJ Collins return to Blacksburg on Wednesday night as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge and dropped 15 off the bench for the Commodores in an 80-64 win. Opening ACC play was a tough ask for the Hokies against the 18th-ranked Panthers and considering how bad the season has gone to date, Virginia Tech took an eight-point lead into the locker room at 36-28 after closing the half on a 13-2 run.

Halftime shows nearly sums up Virginia Tech's season to date

Virginia Tech took a much-needed eight-point lead into halftime was a jolt of energy for the Hokies to try and break their losing streak. If there was one way to sum up the recent brutal success Mike Young's team has had, it appeared to have happened at halftime. During the halftime show at Cassell, a dog appeared to poop on the court during a dog race. Talking about summing up the 2024-25 season for the Hokies. Seriously.

I mean, in all honesty, you couldn't make this up. You couldn't if you tried. Fitting that it happened to Virginia Tech with the way their season has gone to date. Fortunately, shortly after the video hit the internet, it was determined that the dog lost a boot during the race.

It was a false alarm, but it was oh so close to summing up Virginia Tech's season to date. The Hokies lost, 64-59, to the Panthers.
