Incredibly, this is the final week of the ACC women’s basketball regular season. The ACC Tournament is next week in Greensboro, N.C. After upsets this past weekend, seeding for the conference tournament remains in flux. As far as Virginia Tech goes, they are closing in on a much-needed bye on Day 1 of the tourney.
The Hokies are currently holding the last spot to avoid playing on the first day and with one win in their final two games this week, both on the road, Virginia Tech will play in the 8-9 game on Day 2. If they take care of business leading into the conference tournament, they will lock up a bye and improve their NCAA Tournament chances. Charlie Creme at ESPN has Megan Duffy’s team as part of the Last Four In.
It was a week of mixed results for Duffy and her team on the court last week. They blew a double-digit lead in the second half before suffering a 75-74 loss to Stanford. On Sunday, they rebounded and withstood a talented California team making a late-game push for a huge, 87-84, win over the Golden Bears, who fell to 22-7.
This week Virginia Tech has a pair of road games to close out the regular season against two teams below them in the standings. On Thursday night, they have a trip to Boston College, before finishing the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Clemson. Here are the current standings and remaining schedule for the final two days.
