After Florida State beat Virginia Tech, 34-14, on Saturday night, the loss dropped the Hokies to 3-7 and eliminated them from a potential third straight bowl. Of course, anyone paying attention would have known that after the 0-3 start the Tech had and firing Brent Pry after Week 3, it was going down that road anyway.
Meanwhile, in Charlottesville, Virginia is having a season to remember for their suffering fanbase. The Cavaliers are 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the ACC after blasting Duke on the road on Saturday afternoon. They are in a four-way tie with Georgia Tech, SMU, and Pittsburgh in the loss column in the conference. There is still a lot of football to be played over the next two weeks.
We'll get a clearer picture of just who will be heading to Charlotte for the ACC Championship Game in early December as the Yellow Jackets can clinch a spot there with a win over Pitt this weekend at home. As for the other two teams, SMU and Virginia, it's wait and see.
The Mustangs host Louisville this weekend while the Cavaliers are off. They have one game remaining, next weekend at home after Thanksgiving against Virginia Tech. On Monday, the ACC announced the game times and TV channels for Week 14's games, and they did nothing but upset fans in the Commonwealth.
ACC slots Virginia Tech/Virginia game in a six-day hold
For the second straight week, the ACC slotted the Virginia Tech game in two weeks on a six-day hold. They did the same thing for this weekend's home game against Miami, which will kick off at noon.
As for the annual Hokies clash with the Cavaliers, it was one of four games placed in the six-day hold. Also joining them are Miami at Pittsburgh, SMU at California, and Wake Forest at Duke. The time and channel will be announced after this weekend's games, and the conference will wait to put the most meaningful games in the best slots. If you're planning on making the trip on a holiday weekend, you'll have to wait to finalize your plans.
