It was another successful regular season for the Virginia Tech softball team. The Hokies received a bye and avoided playing on the first day of the ACC Tournament this week, where they have work to do if they are going to grab a Top 16 seed and host an NCAA Regional in a couple of weeks.

It was a season that saw a lot of big individual performances from players in the circle and at the plate. Cori McMillan blasted 29 home runs this season, becoming one of the fearsome hitters in the ACC, which earned her ACC Player of the Year honors. Several other Hokies were honored for their seasons, but there was one glaring omission that the conference can't really defend itself over.

Virginia Tech softball star Bre Peck is a glaring omission from ACC awards for the 2025 season

Making the First Team were McMillan and Michelle Chatfield. Kylie Aldridge was on the Second Team, while Emma Lemley, Jordan Lynch, Zoe Yaeger, and Emma Mazzarone were selected to the Third Team. There was one name noticeably missing.

For some reason, Bre Peck was missing from any of the three teams. This season, she batted .358 with 14 home runs and drove in 53 runs. That you would think would be good enough to earn at least a spot on the Third Team, but apparently not.

I get it, not everyone can make the teams, but leaving a layer like Peck off completely is rather mind-blowing. How upset is Peck about this? Who knows, but it’s something like this that could drive a player to prove everyone wrong and go on a tear at the plate, like she has multiple times this season. We’ll find out Thursday night when Tech opens ACC Tournament play against either North Carolina or Notre Dame.
